A new community-led, diamond open-access journal, Geodynamica, has launched to promote inclusive, high-quality research in Earth and (exo-)Planetary dynamics In recent years, various Earth Science fields have established several diamond open-access journals (DOAJ) to remove paywalls and promote open science, such as Volcanica, Tektonika, Seismica, Sedimentologika and Geomorphica.Building on these previous efforts and discussions, a new community-led Journal, Geodynamica has recently launched and is now accepting submissions. Geodynamica’s mission is to facilitate scientific dialog by publishing high-quality peer-reviewed original research in Earth and (Exo-) Planets dynamics and focuses on the understanding of geodynamic processes that shape the Earth and (exo)planets. It welcomes studies based on observations, experiments, simulations and models. This journal is the DOAJ alternative to classic profit-based scientific journals. It is a not-for-profit organisation, exclusively supported by the scientific community, and prioritises scientists’ needs in promoting open communication of science. As a DOAJ, there are no fees to publish and no costs to read articles. Geodynamica works to provide an inclusive, equal and diverse environment for scientific discussion that everyone can engage with and enjoy.Dr Iris van Zelst, Patience Cowie Research Fellow in the School of GeoSciences, one of the founders of this journal shares: “We are so excited to offer an alternative to traditional publishing with Geodynamica! Launching the journal was quite the challenge and the result of two years of work, but the community pulled through and we are now open for submissions. Already, there are three submitted manuscripts. I can’t wait to see our first published article and share the beautiful world of geodynamic research with everyone!“ Dr Iris van Zelst Find out more To learn more about the full scope of the journal, read current publications and find out how to get involved with the Geodynamic community, visit: Geodynamica website Publication date 31 Jul, 2025
