Student Support and Experience The University of Edinburgh is committed to providing the support students need to grow, develop, and succeed during their time here. In the academic year 2021/22, we introduced a new model of student support, developed with input from students and staff. The new model ensures consistent and enhanced support, delivered by specially trained staff. As a student, you will have access to: Assigned Student Adviser: a trained expert who will guide and support you throughout your university experience. They are your first point of contact and will collaborate with Academic Teams, Cohort Leads, and central services to provide the best possible support and relevant information Cohort Leads: these individuals work with groups of students to foster a sense of community and act as a bridge between you and your programme through group events and activities Academic Staff and Teaching Teams: they will actively participate in your induction, studies, and academic progress. You will also have access to additional academic support through enhanced student support teams within your School Wellbeing Advisers: working alongside Student Advisers, they offer enhanced support - including working with other central services, such as Student Counselling and the Student Disability Service Peer Learning and Support Peer Learning and Support Schemes (PALS) are run by students for students. PALS student leaders provide student attendees with not only a great place to meet new people, but also plan and run academic study sessions to support their peers on topics such as: course content assessments such as essays and exams study skills and autonomous learning and much more PALS student leaders facilitate discussions and run structured activities and build a supportive academic community across years groups. Institute for Academic Development (IAD) The IAD website contains resources with advice about studying techniques and good academic practice. The IAD also run workshops on topics like time management and preparing for exams, and offer one-to-one consultations. Institute for Academic Development Advice Place The Advice Place is run by the student association, EUSA, and offers an independent and impartial source of information and advice. They can help with everything from academic matters to finance and accommodation.
