Our MSc in Energy, Society and Sustainability is designed to equip you with a deep understanding of the complex relationships between energy, climate change, and societal sustainability. The programme explores the critical challenges of achieving a just transition to a low-carbon energy system that adheres to energy justice principles while effectively tackling climate change.

You will delve into the social, political, economic, and environmental dimensions of low-carbon energy transitions, examining the risks, costs, and benefits of transitioning to renewable energy sources in a globalised world. Key questions to include will include:

  • How can we ensure a just transition to a low-carbon energy system, prioritising energy justice and equity, while addressing the climate crisis?
  • How do different societies and communities experience and respond to the challenges of low-carbon energy transitions, and how can policy, technology, and social innovation be harnessed to support this transition?

Through this programme, you will gain a critical awareness of the local, regional, and global debates and challenges related to energy, just transitions, and sustainability, including the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
