Tutor and demonstrator (T&D) positions are only available to current PhD and MScR students who meet the required criteria. Taught MSc and integrated Masters students are not eligible for these opportunities.
Restrictions are also placed on those who hold a Tier 4 visa.

You will be required to meet the following criteria to apply for a T&D role:
- You must be a current PhD or MScR student at the University of Edinburgh (when the work is to be undertaken) with one of the following ‘statuses’:
- Fully matriculated
- Interrupted (thesis submitted)
- Continuing student (not yet matriculated)
- Must have the right to work in the UK
- Must be located within the UK to work as a T&D
Applicants will be prioritised as follows:
- Current PhD or MScR student with existing GeoSciences tutor/demonstrator contract
- Current PhD or MScR student without existing contract or contract in another school
- Not a current PhD or MScR student
You must have an employment contract to carry out T&D work.
If your application for a role is successful, we will carry out Right to Work checks. We will also provide you with forms and information to help us put your contract into place. When asked, you must respond to these requests, or there could be delays in getting you properly employed and paid.
You will receive a 'welcome' email from our People & Money system and several notifications of other tasks to complete. Your welcome email will contain a Staff UNN and a temporary password. You should use these to log into MyEd and change your password to something more memorable to you.
PLEASE NOTE: this must be actioned within 4 hours of receiving the email, or the temporary password will expire.
You will use these details to log into People & Money so you can complete the requested tasks, such as telling us your bank details so we can pay you. As part of this process, you will also be set up with a staff email address.
PLEASE NOTE: Your staff UNN and password will be different to your student UNN and password. You will also be set up with a staff email address.
