Taster Lectures Sustainable Land Use - Tools for Exploring Options for ChangeThis online taster lecture was recorded on Friday 29 May, 2026. Achieving sustainable land use is a key goal across our ecosystems globally. This short lecture will look at key concepts in how we approach evaluating land uses, and some tools that can be used in understanding the resulting impacts. Such tools allow us to not only quantify current impacts, but also examine different options for change (in management, legislation, etc), and develop strategies for change and improvement. This lecture was delivered by Professor Alistair Hamilton. Download presentation slides Burying Carbon - How We Can Lock CO2 Underground to Combat Climate ChangeThis online taster lecture was recorded on Tuesday, 02 June, 2026.Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is the main driver of climate change, but our world still depends heavily on fossil fuels and industries that produce it. One solution is to capture CO₂ and store it deep underground in rocks where it can remain safely for millions of years. But how do we know how long it can be stored for and that it will stay there? This talk explores how we can use natural underground CO₂ reservoirs and chemical “fingerprints” to understand how to safely store CO2 and how it can react to turn into new rock. This lecture was delivered by Dr Stuart Gilfillan.
