Title: Recent changes in North Atlantic ocean circulation Abstract: The North Atlantic is one of the most well-observed regions of the global ocean and yet still has mysteries that we need to unravel. The North Atlantic ocean circulation influences many aspects of the Earth system that matter to society including extreme weather, the health of the ocean and future climate. Accurately representing the many different processes that make up the mean circulation and how it changes over time in our climate models is crucial to the confidence we have in forecasts and policy advice that is built on them. In this presentation I will describe recent changes in North Atlantic ocean circulation and show how observations and model experiments have provided new understanding of the complexity of the feedbacks between the ocean and atmosphere. Buffet lunch will be served in the Atrium after the talk. Public Lecture and Drinks reception @ Dynamic Earth The annual public lecture this year will be held at the Dynamic Earth where Penny will be delivering the following talk: Title: Sea change in the climate system: the challenge to understand and predict global ocean circulation Time: Doors open at 6pm Programme: 6pm Welcome Tea & Coffee 7pm Public Lecture 8.30pm Drinks reception This article was published on 2024-07-01
